Project name: Supporting rural women (SURUWO)

Women constitute more than half of the Cameroonian population (50.1%). However, they are also a very vulnerable group suffering from social, educational, political and professional discrimination, as well as domination by the patriarch and various forms of physical violence. The support and development of women in Cameroon could therefore give a substantial boost to the country's development prospects. During its first year of implementation in Cameroon, the SURUWO project was active in Western Cameroon, particularly in Balevounli. A village close to the city of Dschang where the project has supported rural women who face difficulties in their respective agricultural projects by providing them with material and financial inputs. Indeed, due to the global crisis and more particularly the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the price of fertiliser has doubled in Cameroon, preventing these rural women from carrying out their activities, on which the livelihood of their entire family depends.
